Ramona, California,

Founded in 1886, Ramona has a population of over 20,000.  At one time, Ramona was known as the "Turkey Capital of the World."  Beginning in the 1920's and thriving by the '70's with 50 egg ranches.  Dairy ranches were also common but now both are almost completely gone. Ramona's most resent claim to fame is a 1991 Kentucky Derby second-place finisher, Best Pal. No other California bred race horse earned as much as he did. He earned a total of $5.6 million!  Best Pal is buried on the Golden Eagle Farm.
